September 30, 1999. Thursday.
It's about 3:10 am. I'm wide awake. On purpose. I just felt like writing, as I often do at this time of night. So... Rodzilla has come and gone. All went well. Now let the sadness come... Oh, come on... I'm not that bad off. Give me a little credit. But still, I am a bit down right now. The visit itself was pretty good. But I'll go into more detail about that later. And after that, I'm going to try to write on more worldly topics. Meaning writing with a broader appeal. Yes, I'm turning into a big whore. I just want to be read. Why else would I be in journalism school? By the way, I'm listening to the cd "Apartment Life," by Ivy. It's good female-voiced pop. A bit spacey here and there. But just overall pleasant bachelor-pad music.Anyway, the airport goodbye went pretty much as expected. Not too sad, but I guess it hasn't sunken in yet. The minute she got on the plane, I was reading my assignmnet for tomorrow. Well, I actually took some time to write her a letter, but since then, around 7pm, I've been doing my schoolwork. I'm really glad I have that right now. if I still had some shit job, I'd be a lot more depressed. But at least now, I have something to distract me, not to mention the fact that I may have some sort of career in front of me. I hope.
Speaking of the past, I got an email from one Robert Hughes today. It amused me greatly. The subject was "Hot XXX Action," so i was a little disappointed that it was just him. But it was entertaining. He's in South Carolina. He managed to survive the carnage of Hurricane Floyd, but got out of a week of school. Anyway, Robert, on at least one occasion, "jammed" (as we musicians "in the know" call it) with me and James in the garage of the SHOE. It's funny, because I was thinking of band names today, and I had one that I wish we'd gotten to use. So since I like to name everything, from now on I'm going to call any incarnation of a band featuring me, James, and Robert, as "Da Badd Spellaz." I'm always amused/slightly annoyed by rap acts that can't come up with a name, so they just coop an existing name and just ghetto-ize the spelling, particularly the turning of "S"s into "z"s, and "er"s into "a"s. Like "Timbaland" or "Ghetto Boyz" or "Ginuwine" or some shit like that. Anyway, it's not particularly clever, this "Da Bad Spellaz" thing, but neither are any of the aforementioned. So it amuses me marginally, as it should. But still, you shoulda seen crazy ole Robert Hughes work the mic. James played a fierce axe, while I laid down a phat beat on da drums. So watch out! Da Badd Spellaz are comin' to yo town to freak you wild! Can't nobody hold me down!
As predicted, I was very, very bored when I got back from the airport today.
Well, here I am at NYU now. I gots some reading to finish. But I really don't feel like it right now. I feel kind of lousy for skipping class yesterday, but I told my professor, which makes me feel a little better. And really, what was I supposed to do? not go to the airport? Anyway, I got a call from Rodzilla around 9 this morning. She just arrived in Bordeux. We talked for about 4 minutes. It was weird, because the phone woke me up while I was having a dream where I was at her house, talking to her mom. Except that her mom was this fat, hulking beast of a woman with a bad perm and lots of makeup. She actually looked a lot like that ghastly women on the Drew Carrey Show. Anyway, it was particularly good to hear from her this morning, and I slept another 2 hours pretty soundly. Anyway, I supposed I should be getting to work. But I gotta jot down the evens during Rodzilla's visit. But since I expect very little else to happen today, maybe I'll just save that for tomorrow.
