Daily
Aggravations and Regrets
and various shit
It's been a pretty relaxing day. I kind of
feel like writing, and since I gotta lot of work to do in the afternoon,
I thought I should write this now, at 2am. Anyway, on Friday, the
gang came down to Brooklyn, and we hung out here at the pad for a bit,
then went on over to Union St., to this Italian restaurant. Jen,
Matt, James and I sat around eating pizza and drinking red wine.
Things were a bit odd for a while. It was fun but at times it seemed a
little combative. Anyway, after a few caraffes of wine, James went
out for a cigarette, I didn't want to sit there with matt and Jen, so I
went out and found Jimmy and a few doors down. He was watching these
Jamaican raggae guys practicing, and then they asked if anyone played the
guitar, so James jumped on the axe. I played the keyboard for a while,
but poorly. later I played the acoustic, to a nice raggae beat. It
was sort of surreal. Never imaginedJimmy and me playing raggae, that's
for sure. I kinda got into the swing of things after a while though. Basically,
the key to raggae guitar is just know the two chords, the rythm, and play
every guitar stroke on the up-beat. We played about half an hour,
then I guess the guys either got sick of us, or got tired of playing, and
they left one by one. There were about 8 or 9 people stuffed into
this little garage space no wider than 9 feet. But it was fun. At one point
during a lull, Jimmy and I broke into "It's a Buy," and old tune from the
Underpants Cowboy days. The drummer kinda dug it I think. Anyway,
it was an interesting diversion. Nice to know there are a few cool tihngs
to do around this neighborhood on the weekends.
So James and Jen satyed her last night. I was getting
ready for bed, when they came a knockin' on the door. Apparently
the subway were gonna take was shut down for "emergency maintenence."
While we at brunch this morning, there were rumors abuzz that Mayor Rudy
had shut down the subways that went to the Brookyln Museum, in protest
of the blasphemous exhibit at the Museum. So that kind of sucked.
But it was nice to have 'em around for a while. I saw this girl from
class at brunch too. I said hello, but I got kind of a luke-warm response.
That kind of weirded me out a bit. I don't really know why. Maybe
she didn't recognize me. Oh well. Anyway, I have to go back up to
the Met for class. I gotta interview that Adam kid I bought those paintings
from last week. I don't really feel like going back up toward Central Park
though.
Speaking of Parks, James and Jen and I wandered
over to Prospect Park in Brooklyn today. It's actually only a block from
here, but i nevered bothered to check it out till today. I wish I ha. It's
a lot bigger than i thought. You can't even tell you're in the city. I
mean, when you're in Central Park, you know you're in Central Park.
But here, it just looks like any park at home in PA. It actually reminded
me of the park near Rodzilla's house that we went rollerblading at.
I wish I woulda know about this place when she was here, actually. You
know...
Speaking of Rodzilla, I finally got an email from
her today. She's doing her training for her teaching job now. She
seems to be doing well though. I really miss her, and she's only been gone
3 days. Only about 10 weeks left. Super.
