Daily Aggravations and Regrets
  and sleep-deprived ramblings

I think I've gotten pretty good at this vagrancy thing.  This vagabond lifestyle that started with my expulsion from Berry's HGA (Happy Girly Apartment). It hasn't been that enjoyable, but I think it's hardened me just a little. Which is a good thing. I need to be less accustomed to my creature comforts. I need to be able to live contently with just a roof over my head.  I also need to be able to set various alarm clocks.  I'm failing miserably on all three counts.  But getting better, I think.
So I was more than an hour late for work today. Matt and I went to see Star Wars last night. since the movie didn't get out till after midnight, I figured I'd just stay at his place to save myself the 23 mile trip back to Potomac. I actually wouldn't have minded the drive back, but I hate the drive here in the mornings.  And matt's place is only about 4miles from here. Of course, we ended up talking to Jed till about 1:30. We called him with the secret code-ring, and he actually picked up, so we had to take advantage of the situation since you never really know when he'll surface again.  I just had to make sure that I had dibs on the couch when Matt and I go down on Sunday.  Jed also told me that Dan Rushing, our former roommate at the Shittiest House On Earth (SHOE) will also be coming into town. I'm kinda excited about that. I haven't seen him in a whole year. Anyway, I didn't get into bed until almost 2am, and I set matt's alarm to wake me at 7:04. The thing has three different times you can set an alarm, which is always confusing.  I had the right alarm set, but for some reason I flipped the switch to "off" instead of "alarm."  I don't know why. I never do stuff like that.  Maybe cos all my alarms that i've used recently have the "alarm" button in the middle, and this one had the "off" button in the middle position.  Or I'm a big fuckin idiota.  I woke up a few times in the morning, but didn't even look at the clock cos i "knew" that the alarm would let me know when it was time to get up.

Anyway, after work yesterday I went straight to Matt's, although I probably coulda gone home first. He had some work to do, and his girlfriend was cooking dinner, and he had to go to this birthday party. So I ended up be present for all of those. Dinner was good, but the party was a little dumb. maybe dumb is too harsh. But it wasn't exactly my cup of tea. Plus, I only knew about 3 people there, and I was the lone non-law student. The birthday girl was this girl that I'd supposedly met some months ago when Jed was here.  I was a little out of my mind, and all I really remember was being in a taxi while she was recalling an account of some guy hitting on her by telling her she smelled like leather. In a low, monotone voice I asked "Did you smell like leather?"  without looking at her.  She replied that, yes, she did smell like leather.  she was wearing a leather jacket, after all.  To which I relplied, "Then why didn't you go home with him?"  At that point I seem to recall her falling silent and turning completely to her left, away from me, and not turning even forward for the rest of the ride. Needless to say, I wasn't looking forward to seeing her again. Actually, I wasn't looking forward to her seeing me again. But I doubt she remembered.  It was a long time ago, it was dark, and it was late on a Saturday night.  But when matt "introduced" us, she seemed to remember me. Oh well. Not like I'll ever really see her again anyway.
The rest of the party was spent trying to blend in and trying to pretend that I wasn't following matt and/or his girlfriend around so i wouldn't be sitting around in a corner by myself.  After what seemed to be about 4 1/2 hours, it was finally time to leave.  Matt's girlfriend was supposed to come to the movie with us, but decided to stay at the party. So after matt said his goodbye, we finally took off for the Uptown Theatre.  When we got there, a littl after 9, the line was already down the block and around the corner.  I was a little surprised that the Monday night 10pm show was sold out, but then again the Uptown only has one theatre and it routinely sells out.  The theater holds about 800 people, and has a giant wrap around screen.  That's cool from the middle of the theatre, but from the sides, where we were sitting, it looks a little distorted.  While we were in line, there were of course people having light-saber duels and whatnot.  And of course there were also people mercilessly making fun of them.  Matt and I thought it'd be funny if, in the middle of their "duel,"  someone just came up and shot them.  Let me rephars that.  It wouldn't have been funny, but it would make a funny scene in a movie.  At first I found the light-saber-wielding people a little annoying, but soon the people making fun of them I found even more annoying.  Just standing there making little "witty" comments like "I'm sorry, but that is so pathetic."  If there's one thing I hate, it's judgemental, stupid girls.  They've never been told to their faces how stupid they are by anyone, especially by the guys that want to sleep with them. So they just build up this misplaced sense of intelligence and wit.  And the guys around these girls weren't much better. Pretty soon matt and I thought it'd be a lot funnier to shoot these people instead.  It woulda been a perfect scene, to just turn around and pop 'em in the middle of their annoying self-congradulatory chuckles.  "Hahahahahaha"*POW*  Funny in a moviem that is.  Yes... a movie...

So, the film itself was pretty much what I expected.  It was actually a little too formulaic. It had almost everything I like about Return of the Jedi, and everthing I didn't like. And I think you'd enjoy the movie more if you knew some of the backstory, like who eventually becomes the emperor. I mean, they made it pretty clear, and there was a lot of foreshadowing, but it could still be a little confusing. I did notice some little things, like how the guards in the blue armor looked a lot like the Emperor's Imperial Guards in red in Jedi.  One thing I really can't stand is George Lucas' obessesion with alien creatures.  I mean, the ones in this movie weren't as bad as the Ewoks, but they were still kinda annoying. And the three-front final scene was enjoyable, but like Jedi, it kinda dragged at time. It cut between scenes too often.  But it didn't really disappoint.  I think it'll probably go down as the least of the 6 films though. It really sets up the Episode Two nicely.  And Episode Three will be the last one, and I think that'll definitely make the most money out of all of them.  Episode one wasn't a great film, and the acting was not so good, but when you compare it to the other films, I think as far as acting and plot goes, it was pretty comprable.  And although it seemed to drag at points, it had more action than the other films. I guess we're just a lot more used to all-out action these days.  A lot more coulda been done with the final battle though. And If I have to see one more cute creature race playing their funny instruments in a planet-wide celebration, I'm gonna go nuts. That was really the worst-worst part.

I'm still pretty tired.  I really can't wait to get to Lexington. I really miss it this time of year especially.  It should be a lotta fun with matt and jed, and dan.  I'm also looking forward to living with Matt for two weeks. it'll be nice to be able to get home from work, and just walk down to a bar or a bookstore or coffee shop or something.  And Matt's girlfriend even has him doing dishes now.  Whoda thunk it.? too bad she couldn't have dated him in highschool or something.  Anyway, that's all.
