My enthusiasm for this is kinda low right now. I think I need to start writing at night more. I always feel like writing more at night. But it's just more practiacl to write it here at work, where I have fewer distractions and more free time. Kinda funny, huh?
Anyway, I of course did not get to the Built to Spill show last night. Nicole couldn't go, and I convinced myself that I was too tired and it was too much of a pain in the ass and the whole time i would be there I'd be worried about my car and how I'd get home, etc etc etc... Which worked pretty well. So instead I spent the night watching TV. Naturally. I mostly flipped between two wrestling shows and the basketball games. It was entertaining enough to get me through the night. Wrestling has really come a long way since I was so bored with it a few years back. Burned out, really.
I also saw some Entertainment Tonight-esque show that had a feature on the opening of Star Wars in some of the bigger cities. Basically a lot of celebrity quotes and whatnot saying how cool the movie was and whatnot. Pretty standard stuff. One comment that I did take exception to was made by the increasingly-annoying Rosie O'Donnell. She said something like " ...And it's a good message to kids: Feel the 'Force'- the 'force' that guides you through life, stay away from the Dark and move toward the Light..." Right on Rosie! excuse me for a moment...hehe...huh huhu...hee-hee...hahah hahahaHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
PUH-LEASE!Will somebody please tell her she doesn't have some 24-hour Nickelodeon-cam on her or something. I mean, can't we just enjoy something anymore without trying to see what message it gives kids or finding a message in it at all? Stay away from the darkness and move toward the light? That's a great tip, Rosie. I don't think I've ever heard a comment so bereft of thought in a long time. "Hey Kids! here's G-Rock's Friendly Tip of the Day: Be good! Don't be bad!" sigh... What's happening in this world? Can't you just say how cool the fucking effects are like everyone else and get on with your life!?! I mean, let's face it, the effects make Star Wars. Don't get me wrong... I love the movies. But c'mon, the plot of the first was really nothing original. And from what I hear, there's no startling revelation or exciting plot twist in the new movie either. I'm not saying that it won't be visually astounding, because I'm sure it will. But let's be realistic and just see it 20 times or so and marvel at how fucking cool it all looks and how cool it is that there are more Star Wars movies. Ok. I'm feeliong better now. One last thing: Fuck you, Rosie O'Donnell! Sorry. but that felt really good.
So anyway, I'm working the late shift again today. So I got a little extra sleep. But i'm still kinda tired. I guess it's good that I didn't go to the Built to Spill show. Right. You just keep on telling yourself that. You know, I sometimes almost look forward to coming in to work. I mean, what else would I do with my day. Then again, I suppose now that the weather's warm, I'd spend a lot of time outside. Everyday on the George Washington Parkway, I always want to stop somewhere and just sit by the water. I'm especially curious about this Roaches Run Waterfowl Sanctuary. I mean, how big could it be? It's right next to National Airport. That seems like an odd place for a waterfowl sanctuary, seeing as how birds have such a propensity to be sucked into jet-engines. But I have seen some rather cool looking birds. Nora, who just arrived in England not 12 hours ago, thought she saw a vulture the other day, but I told her it wasn't, since I thought it was more of a western bird. But I did see a large, scavenging bird-of-prey on the highway the other day that was pretty vulture-esque. And I do seem to recall now once learning that there are several types of vultures. But I could be wrong. Did i just write 5 sentences about vultures? By the way, I've always thought "Birds of Prey" would be a cool name for a cheesy classic rock band.
Well, maybe more later.
