Daily Aggravations and Regrets
    and various random thoughts

March 5, 1999. Friday

I'm here in the James Graham Leyburn Library on the campus of Washington and Lee University.  I've been having all sorts of trouble actually getting into the system. various network problems and slow computers have made this a lot more difficult than it shoulda been.  Anyway, it's weird to be back here.  I haven't been in this building for a long time now. But it doesn't feel any different. That's the good thing about this place.  Time pretty much stands still. I suppose in a lot of important ways, that's also the big problem with this place.
Well, I got in last night and went out a bit with Rodzilla, then went to Jed's Haunted House.  I don't really recall what we did.  I guess we just watched a lot of tv. But it's always nice to just hang out. Besides, I was so beat from the trip that I didn't really wanna do anything.  Yesterday was a particularly slow day at the office. So one of the conferencing sites in Crane, Indiana, called us and told us that they had a high school tour coming through, and asked if we would set up a video conference with them so they could see how the whole shebang worked.  So i got to talk to this group of highschool kids for about half an hour.  It was actually pretty tedious.  After my intial talk on where I was located, how the weather was, and my (non)qualifications for the job, i pretty much sat there for the next 20 or so minutes. I did some shadow puppets with a projector and some other stupid camera stuff for them while the guy in Indiana kept talking to them.  After about ten minutes, the kids in the back row were bored as all hell, and were kinda just lying down on the table.  After about 15 minutes, i was pretty much the same way.  I felt like i was part of the field trip, not the field, if you will.  I felt like I was back in school. So naturally, i zoned out.  Towards the end of his talk at some point, he said "... isn't that right, Greg?"  and, as i popped back into reality, asked sheepishly "... Um... pardon?"  I had completely phased into my own little world. The highschoolers all knew what was up, and they all thought it was a gas.  I was kinda embarrassed.  But then it was over, and I got on with my life.
Anyway, back in lexington, james should be arriving around 7, and matt some time soon as well. matt's only staying till tomorrow, so i doubt i'll get to see him that much, if at all, what with tonight's activities already planned out for me.  Jed's off running errands, and Rodzilla is asleep. So i thought i'd do some web-geek stuff.  It's been a pretty uneventful day.  It's always nice to have those though.  I slept in, got my oil changed, went to Wal-Mart and bought some SillyPuddy, and that was about it.  Then I came here.  But i think I'm all done now.
