June 14, 1999. Monday
Mail to G-RockDo you know what today is? Today is Monday. Today is June 14. Of course, this is clearly labeled at the top of this page. But it's also the last Monday I will ever, EVER, step foot into this office! Do you know what tomorrow is? It's the last Tuesday that I'll ever, EVER sit at this computer and type! Do you know what the day after tomorrow is? You get the point...
That's right kids, it's my final week here at the place I've called "work" for the past 8 months. I can't say it hasn't been fun, cos it hasn't. It's afforded me many wonderful opportunites though. It's safe to say that if I weren't working here, I most likely wouldn't be going to NYU in the fall. I most certainly wouldn't have this webpage. I wouldn't have talked to Nora as much, I wouldn't have seen Rodzilla as much, I wouldn't have seen Matt and Nicole and Rick as much as I have, and Berry and I would probably still be friends. So all in all, a lot of good things have come out of this. It sucks, becuase now I'm more likely to tolerate an intolerable situation in the hopes that something good will come of it. Live and learn, I suppose. Boy, I never thought I'd be an example of that.So anyway, I'm back here at work after another restful weekend at the place I call "home." I was gonna go to Lexington, but Rodzilla had to work two shifts of 11am-9pm, so she thought what's the point and told me not to come. so naturally, i got an email from her when I got back home on friday around 6:30 saying she was out of work already and maybe I cold come down. Rats. But I had a fine time at home. On Friday, nothing much happened. I sat at home, watching TV, eating Oreos, and reading comic books. but it's very restful, and I didn't mind it one bit.
On Saturday, I actually got some excercise. I played basketball with Geoff and two of his friends. We won, laregely due to him. it was also the hottest day in a long time, and I was pretty beat after 2 games. Unfortunately, we ended up playing five, so I was dead tired for the rest of the day. that night, I went out with Mike and Evan. I drive over to Mike's house, and The Plan was to go to this crappy wrestling show at the Pat Garret Ampitheatre in Shartlesville, PA. We all wanted to see the new Austin Powers, but Mike refused to go to the only theatre it was at, since he got food poisoning there a little while ago. Anyway, the show cost 15 bucks, and we didn't wanna pay it, so Mike tried to use some of his wrestling contacts and lingo to get us in. he introduced himself by his wrestling alter-ego, Mike Quackenbush. Some people knew him by name, and he was wearing a T-shirt with his picture on it, but no one "important" recognized him and we pretty much just gave up and left. So we drove around aimlessly for a while, then they decided they needed something to eat, so we drove to Appleby's. I myself am not a fan of that restaurant, but I had already eaten and it wasn't worth making a fuss over. Rodzilla happens to really like that restaurant, and I don't really understand why. So she was pretty upset when I told her I went, since I've refused to go with her in the past. Anyway, it was a pleasant enough time. We had some of the most inane, yet fulfilling, conversations I've witnessed to date. We mostly talked about comics, cartoons, cartoons about comics, and comics about cartoons. We mostly just filled in holes in our early child-hood memories, about cartoons like "M.A.S.K." "Q-bert," "Battle of the Planets," various incarnations of "Superfriends," and other super-hero based cartoons. It's hard to believe that 3 23-year olds could sit around and talk about old cartoons for so long. But they just kept coming. I also talked to Mike a good bit about various wrestling matters. I haven't really spoken to him about wrestling since I've become more interested in it, after a few years of utter disdain, and it was interesting to hear his stories. He also filled me in on some various people from highschool. Who got fat, who got fatter, who's ugly, who got breast implants, who's an alcoholic, who's married, etc. Not too exciting, but interesting nonetheless. And I feel MUCH better about my life.
I was trying desperately to get a hold of Jason all weekend, but apparently when I called and left messages, his family thought I said "Craig," and he didn't think I was home, so i didn't see him at all. I guess I should email people before going home. I actually ended up contacting him through AOL, right before I left last night. it's pretty weird that an AOL chat is the only way I can get in touch with some people these days. Anyway, we talked about going to Hilton Head in August. He works for the Sheraton in Wyomissing, see, and can get hotel rooms for about 15 bucks a night. As Rick would say: "That's what I call...the Nice Price!" So I thought it'd be cool if we all went down. Me, Rodzilla, Jason, and his girlfriend. it'll be fun, but the notion admittedly did sound a bit odd to both of us. We felt so grown up. I think he wrote "a vacation together... how cute." or something, and we both wrote something like "we're all growsed up." But I'm really looking forward to it. Let's hope it all comes together.Maybe more later...
