Mail to G-RockSo here I am again in Reid Hall at Washington and Lee. It's about 9pm, and I'm all sweaty and hot. I actually got some excercise tonight. For the first time in more than a week, it wasn't insufferably hot. I mean, it was still really hot today, but not as humid and as unpleasant as it has been. Anyway, not much going on here. I'm pretty much just settling into the routine of being lazy. This really is a great job. I sit around and sleep and eat, and the sunset right now is absolutely marvelous. It's tough to beat the rural South for great sunsets. Sure, other places have spectacular views, but the pink and orange sky over the Blue Ridge Mountains ain't too shabby. The best part is, I get paid to do this. I'd do this for free. Almost. I mean, they do give me free room and board too. But if I could do this job the whole year round, I'd probably do it, at least for a while. So anyway, after my morning nap, I had lunch. I've actually missed the Dining Hall here. The food isn't all that bad, and they do some things really well. But lately, the food has been atrocious. So I've been eating a lot of egg salad lately. A lot. Every lunch and avery dinner so far, I've had an egg salad sandwich, dripping with mayo. today I skipped the bread, which was a mistake, because the extra mayo had no where to go. i think there were some bites that I ate that were completely egg-free. anyway, after lunch, Rodzilla and I headed out to the driving range to hit some golf balls. I've had a hankering to play golf ever since Jason and I played chip-and-put the last time I was home. i was feeling oddly confident in my swing, so i thought I'd give it a shot. Rodzilla had taken golf here last term here, so she wasn't completely disinterested either. Only mostly. It was fun though. I did better than I thought I'd do, and it was the most excercise I'd gotten in a few days.
After that, we went to Wal-Mart so i could pick up an inhaler and a slushy. i'm a really sucker for slushies. I really think it's one of the best inventions ever. Definitely the best frozen treat ever. I mean, every time I go to Dairy Queen or somethin like that, I'm always faced with the dilemma, "do I want ice-cream, or am I so thirsty that I just want something to drink?" Ice cream never quenches thirst, even in milkshake form. And it feels like a wasted trip if I just get a soda or even a float of somesort. But the slushy, now there's a great idea. It's not really comprable to ice-cream, but it's wholly more satisfying to drink. The problem with the slushy is the lack of regulation. Only some places do the slushy really well. the only reliable place around here is Walmart, and their's are only so-so. 7-11 has good consistency, but the flavor is horrendus. This is true of all of them, I don't know why. No one can really match the Bavarian Pretzel at home. You know, i think I've talked about this before. Let's check. Yup, back on April 1st, I had a short little rant on slushies. So to save time, you could just check that out. Boy, i really can go on and on about the most mundane shit. it's a wonder anyone reads this at all.
So... the kids had to see a guest speaker today. this was the third time I'd seen him, but i didn't remember till I actually saw him speak. He was a law professor, and he was pretty good. I zoned out a lot, but I remember liking his talk before. Very common-sense in his approach. I like that. Good ole common sense goes a long way with me. A lot of the kids were sitting around and falling asleep, and some even put their sunglasses over their eyes. Head Boss Lady Megan chewed em out after the talk, and even managed to make me feel a little guilty for slouching. She's good at her job, I'll give her that.
Anyway, after dinner I'd planned to play soccer, but there's not much interest in that this year. So I stopped by the gym to embarass myself by playing basketball. It actually wasn't that bad. I really like playing with good indoor balls. They're so much easier to shoot, probably since they're a lot heavier than outdoor balls. Anyway, that was really tiring, but a good tired. Which brings me here. Well, it's getting about that time, so I suppose I'll post this now. I think I may go bowling, if they're open. Or get myself a snack.
