July 14, 1999.
Well, I'm sitting in my dorm room, writing this on
my Apple Powerbook 5300. It's largely the most reviled Powerbook ever made.
It cost well over 2000 bucks when I got it. For that money now, you could
get a fantastic G3 Powerbook. That's what I'm saving up for. Anyway,
I guess this is the first time I've written an entry on this computer.
I have no internet connection in my room, so i'll just upload later. So...
I've been spending a lot of time in my room lately, since the weather has
been so shitty lately. I've been watching a lot of the History Channel.
There's a series on the Civil War on everday at 3:30. I'm a sucker for
those things. But right now, I'm watching SpiderMan on Fox. We used
to watch a lot of SpiderMan at the SHOE, and
for a long time whenever I'd see this show i would expect to smell cigarettes,
since we always watched the TV in the smelly "Dick Room" of the SHOE.
Ah...memories.
Anyway, I've spent most of the day in bed.
I didn't get to bed until about 3am last night. Rodzilla
and I were doing our laundry, and we sat outside talking to the other counselors
for a while about how shitty the kids were. We talked about other stuff,
but it mostly centered around that. So after that, I played poker
with the guys on my hall for about a hour. I won a coupla bucks. No big
deal, but at least I didn't lose any money. So I'm pretty tired.
But it was nice I guess to talk to the other counselors for a change. I
don't feel much of a bond with the other people this year. It's pretty
just Rodzilla and me. In previous years when I did this job, we use
to all hang out late at night, which was fun. But we don't do that much
these days. Maybe that's why this year feels so different.
So I missed breakfast this morning, and slept in
till 8. At our morning meeting, we talked about kicking this trouble-maker
girl out of the program, and earlier today I found out that she'd indeed
been sent home. I feel more empowered now, like I actually have some sort
of authority with these kids now. Anyway, after the meeting, I slept straight
through lunch, till about 2pm. That was really nice. So now i'm just
killing time till dinner.
I'm also waiting to here from Matt. Rodzilla
and I are taking our day off on Friday. Jed said he wanted us all to go
to his family's lake house at Deep Creek Lake in Maryland. But James can't
go, and it's about 4 hours away, and I only get 24 hours off. So spending
1/3 of that time driving, and the fact that James can't go, really detract
from the appeal .
Changing the topic for a moment, Fox Family Channel
is showing "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" right now. It's that stop-motion-animation
thingy a la "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" about the origin of Santa
Claus. This is odd and notable for two reasons. First of all, it's
July 14, and they're showing a Christmas show. Second of all, I was just
telling Boss Lady Megan the other day that I thought Rodzilla's hands resembled
those of the Winter Warlock featured in this show. They're kinda
long and increasingly pointy as you get toward the ends of them.
Anyway, it's one of my all-time favorite Christmas shows. Good musical
numbers. I think Mickey Rooney plays Kris Kringle. So check it out
if you get the chance. A truly fabulous hour of entertainment. Ooohh...
I hate that evil Burgermeister!
Oh, i see...Fox is doing a "Christmas in July" thingy. How nice.
Anyway... Rodzilla and I may be going to Busch Gardens or the new Six Flags America in DC on Friday. I really like amusement parks. I hoping to get to the park in DC, then maybe go out ith Matt on Friday night. That'd be pretty neat-o. But I think he may be going to Jed's lake house. As much as I like that place, I'd rather go when Jed, James, Matt and I could all be there. Maybe in August. last august, Jed, James, and I were there, and it was a lot of fun. I took up my drum set, and guitars, and we recorded a few songs. The last hurrah of Underpants Cowboy.
