I've been closely monitoring the UPS page all day, as I track the package from Amazon.com that contains my new iPod. One of the more exciting parts of my week. Other things that are exciting me right now: The prospect of moving into my new apartment in five weeks, and the discovery that on August 11, the Bowery Ballroom here in NYC will be graced by the presence of Huey Lewis and the News. There was a time in my life (ca. 1986-1987) where the only music I listened to was Huey Lewis and Billy Joel. Largely the older brother's influence. So I'm very excited to see this show. I think it'll either sell out or be so empty you can here the News sneering at Huey. And also, I've started wondering: why isn't Huey Lewis held up as some sort of hipster god? What with the trucker hats, bad fashion, adherence to irony, etc... Afterall, was it not dear old Huey who first said "It's hip to be square?" Truly, a man way ahead of his time. The package just arrived. I actually got up and went to the bathroom to wash my hands before I opened the package.
After getting through three layers of boxes, I have the iPod. I have to say, Apple really does a bang-up job with their products. It comes in a black cube with a white Apple on it, and then the cube flips open in half, with the iPod and dock on one side and the accessories on the other. I thought it was very "McBLT"-esque.
I've been staring at and fondling the iPod for a few hours now, and it took quite a while for my heart to stop fluttering. It really is delightful to look at and to hold. I can't believe I'm this excited about it, and I haven't even used it yet. Reaffirming my Mac-centric beliefs, the instructions for PC are about twice as long as they are for the Mac.
In other news, I'm escaping the city for the long weekend. Headed out to western Maryland for a little R&R at Deep Creek Lake, where Jed's family has a little piece of property. It's supposed to rain and be in the high 50's all weekend, naturally. Looking forward to another road trip though, particularly with my new iPod. Truthfully, if not for this trip, I probably wouldn't have bought it. A creature of whim, am I.
