I read something the other day about Ryan Adams saying that the Strokes are the most important band in the world right now. On the same level, he says, of importance that Oasis was when they were important in the 90's. What a fucking idiot. Two thoroughly unoriginal bands. The most important of the last decade. Riiight. Though I guess it's no surprise then that his own second album sounds like so many other people, and not as good. Speaking of Ryan Adams, he joins the Strokes and the White Stripes at the bottom of my over-hyped list of bands/people for stopping a show and kicking out a fan who requested he play "Summer of '69" by Bryan Adams. It's called a sense of humor. What a fucking rock star. He should be beaten outside the club with small rocks and broken bottles.
That said, I have been listening to the Oasis song "Supersonic" at least five times a day for the past week, and I also think Ryan Adams' first album is truly lovely. Also, Ryan Adams should hope he one day writes a song as catchy as "Summer of '69."So I'm going to the Beck/Flaming Lips show tonight. There are musicians I feel more conflicted about than Beck. Hated Midnite Vultures, like Mutations. Like his new album, Sea Change. More in the Mutations vein. I wouldn't even be going if a) Geoff didn't have an extra ticket, and b) the Flaming Lips were not only his opening band but also his backing band. If they were just the opening band, I probably still wouldn't go. But I want to see this. Because when I saw the Lips in August in Prospect Park, a lot of their sounds were samples. So I want to see them actually play.
