Daily Aggravations and Regrets
and various random thoughts

Kathy and I have been planning a little trip for August.  Part of the email she sent me read
"I like hearing you take a stand!  I'm not used to it."
I'm still waiting to hear what she means by that.
Anyway, Kathy's coming out in August, from San Francisco, and we're going to take a few days and drive up to Montreal. I'd really like to see an Expos game before the team no longer exists.  Though that's iffy.  It's about a six hour drive.  I'm really looking forward to it. I haven't seen Kathy in more than a year, and I kind of want to get out of the city for a while.  So Montreal seemed like a nice place. Haven't been there, don't mind the French business, and could use a moderately long drive.  Kathy also wanted to go to Toronto, but I had to point out the geographical expansiveness of Canada.

I got a raise yesterday after my performance review. I now make $623.29 more.  A year.  Three years ago I was making more than two thousand dollars more a year, paying half the rent I am now.  But I like to think I'm a more complete and content person.
Had dinner with Geoff last night at a very nice sushi place by his office on 48th st. and Park.  It was a mildly expensive dinner, but the tab was pretty much a fart in the wind to him.  But it definitely tasted expensive.  It'd been a while since I last had really good sushi.

Jen from DC is coming up this weekend with her friend Betsy.  Our big plan for the weekend is to "get drunk."   She says she's coined a new term, "parasite journaling."  She says that instead of writing her own account of the weekend, she'll just link to mine.  I don't like that. I like comparing our accounts of our little visits.  So expect my account to be filled with lies and half-truths.

I'm having dinner with Rodzilla this evening. It is her turn to pay for an expensive dinner, since I paid last time.  In the past, whenever she offers to pay for dinner or something, one of two things happens:  Either we stop talking, or she gets some large part of the meal for free.  So I shall be monitoring the next few hours with great interest.

Events for the weekend will include the following: a free (or almost free) concert featuring Yo La Tengo up in Prospect Park on Friday.  This is the closest a good band has ever been from my place of dwelling.  It will be even better in August, when the Flaming Lips and Modest Mouse stop by for two shows.  On Saturday, we will celebrate Bastille Day, Brooklyn stylee.  Well, almost. There's an official Bastille Day celebration on Smith St. in Caroll Gardens.  So I guess that would be the more Brooklyn style celebration. Anyway, ours will be in the form of another bbq.  Jed and I will be performing selections from our two-man production of Les Miserable.  I have also been telling people that Jed will be donning a white wig and knee britches and performing his three favorite orations by Maximilien Robespierre (I myself was always more partial to Georges Jaques Danton),and that we will be staging a re-enactment of the Tennis Court Oath.  We really like the French Revolution.  I also really like the word "Jacobin."  I thought for a while that that would be a good band name.  Oui.
