Daily Aggravations and Regrets
and various random thoughts

June 13th, 2002. Thursday

Briefly: The sickness. Getting better. Coughed up the biggest loogie of my life yesterday. I normally do not do that. I find it terribly disgusting, expelling something through your mouth that usually goes through your nose. But there was something blocking my throat, I coughed, and out it came. It was huge. I spit it in a tissue, and then spent a little time studying it in awe.

I was at the night job until almost 1:30 last night. Had to watch what turned out to be the last game of the NBA Finals. Not pretty. Around 1 AM, I was fully consumed in making a giant rubber band chain. It was pretty impressive. Then took a cab home with two co-workers who live nearby in Brooklyn. Then went to bed. Then got out of bed and came to work. This is no way to live.

What's currently making me happy. Well, the fact that I can breathe a little better today is pretty nice. Also, my friend Becky Thomas received the cd of the song I wrote for her. She said she loved it. I told her I was sick and She's a medical doctor, don't you know. Then she said she liked the song so much that she would write me a prescription for anything I wanted. My money problems may be solved.

I also recently downloaded the new Flaming Lips single, "Fight Test," from their forthcoming album. It's pretty damn good. I don't know why, but the Flaming Lips remind me of Wilco. Or the other way around, more precisely. When I hear all the talk about all the sonic textures and weird noises and genius of Wilco's new album, as soon as I hear the Flaming Lips I feel like what Wilco is doing is nothing new at all, musically or even in terms of changing their band's direction. I haven't listened to that much Flaming Lips, but this seems obvious. Not that I like Wilco any less. I just think the Lips should also get their due.

I've been having noticeably drastic mood swings for the last few days. The current mood is a rotten one.
