Daily Aggravations and Regrets
and various random thoughts

My new game in the morning is to race the Hasidic Jews up the stairs when I get off the train at West 4th Street. For some reason, whenever a Hasid gets off the train there, he sprints out of the car and zips up the two flights of steps. I'm all for walking quickly, and am always conscious about trying to catch a train when I'm transferring, but the way they run full bore up the steps is a little ridiculous. Normally I would also feel bad making generalizations like "they," or "the Jews," but, I can honestly say that 9 times out of 10, when I'm on the F train with a Hasidic Jew, they are usually the first out of the car, or barring that, the first up the stairs to the A,C,E train platform.

I rode the train in today with Dylan's girlfriend, Kelly. One of our often discussed mutual interests is the Michael J. Fox movie "Teen Wolf." She mentioned yesterday that Michael J. Fox was in her office yesterday, and everyone was like "Alex!" But she was like, "Scott Howard!" At first she didn't even tell me MJ was in her office. She told me Scott Howard was there, and it took me a moment to figure out who she was talking about. What a great flick. It's great, because I quote the movie all the time, but no one's seen it enough to know that it's not me just being witty. The most often used theft is a little passage where the coach, Bobby Finstock, tells Scott "I have three rules I live by: Never get less than twelve hours' sleep, never play cards with a man named after a city, and never go out with a woman with a tatoo of a dagger anywhere on her body. Everything else is cream cheese." I use that at least once a month. Of course, lately it's just been to Kelly, while talking about "Teen Wolf." But it did give me my little diversion for the day, which is going to be to go on imdb.com and track the careers of all the people who were in Teen Wolf. I did the same for the cast members of Police Academy last week. Did you know that Michael Winslow, the sound effects guy, was the only cast member to be in all 7 movies, the cartoon, and the tv series? Poor guy. Even Tackleberry didn't do the tv show. He actually showed up on the West Wing a few times. I have a personal fascination with the West Wing for resurrecting b-movie actors, but that's another tale. Anyway, I'm always pleased when I see Teen Wolf members somewhere. I see the guy who played Stiles quite a bit. I think he was on Seinfeld once. I think I've seen him somewhere more recently though. It was on Will and Grace. IMDB tells me he's actually appeared three times, not including this season. I love you, internet. Anyway, while on the train I saw a Hasidic Jew, and mentioned my little fascination to Kelly, who told me her roommate cannot stand it and freaks out at the whole phenomenom. So when I got of at West 4th I told her I was going to race him. She said "You don't stand a chance, Chow," but I totally burned him. Even with my guitar in tow. Anyway, time to do a little Teen Wolf research.

By the way, least-necessary movie sequel ever: Teen Wolf, Too. Barely beating out Mannequin 2. Just awful. Second rate Teen Wolf movie starring that second-rate Michael J. Fox, Jason Bateman. Speaking of Batemans, here's wishing a happy birthday to Bateman sibling Justine, who once hosted a video dealing with issues of teen dating, "How Can I Tell I'm Really in Love?" Justine turned 36 years young on Tuesday.

Most necessary sequel ever: Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo. Came out the same year as the original Breakin', which no one would even remember if not for the mere title of "Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo." This may only be because it is an oft-referenced movie. I've never seen either movie. But the sequel is a title that's tough to beat.
