Thursday
Different kinds of poems
Will be how this entry goes
Haikus: too damn hard
After work, yesterday night,
I headed for the East Village
To sit and talk in dim red light
And drink an alcoholic beverage
To Simone on St. Marks Place
Was where I needed to be
Hoping to see a friendly face
Though the chances were fifty-fifty
I met Rodzilla
at the cafe
She'd waited for more than an hour
Showing up late, I knew what she'd say,
"You're late!" along with her trademark glower
I ordered a beer from the bald French waiter,
she finished her cafe au lait
We ordered some food a little bit later
Of which I have this to say:
Smoked salmon was the dish that we had
It couldn't have made me more glad
with cream cheese and toast,
and capers to boast,
I was a happy happy young lad
---
Here fishy fishy
on my plate, no where to go
except my tummy
----
Pink fish served as a
flower, so pretty to see
ripped apart with knives
----
On my way home
I started to roam
But remembered I needed to get going
Walking alone
The street lights shone
down, my loneliness glowing
Melodramatic, the trip was allright
My roommates I saw through the window
So I frittered away
The remains of my day
Watching tv and playing Nintendo
Heard from Jen K
for the first time in a while,
Just back from the isles of Greece
Talked about nothing,
Which is our style
Not substantial in the least
Now here at work,
Though my boss's not a jerk
I needed something to rhyme
Caryn, of course,
Said my rhymes are all forced,
And I've totally wasted my time.
These poems have been tough,
And I've had a rough
Time, making them fit the right parameters
Attempted a sonnet,
Spent too much time on it,
Perplexed by iambic pentameter
