2001. Monday
Another seemingly eventul day was had today. There were actually only one or two items of any real significance, but twelve hours were spent in Manhattan, so it made it seem like I had a big day. Anyway, you can decide for yourself what was significant. I'm just going to write it all down.I think Caryn called this morning. I'd asked her to call me and wake me up, because we were going to have lunch and I wanted to go to the gym before that. So she called, I got up, went to the gym, and then went up and met Caryn at the Spin office. While there, I got a message from Jed, saying someone had called about a substitute teaching job. So it looks like that'll be coming through finally. We had lunch at a pizza place not too far from the office. They were chock full of cheese. After the calzones, Caryn said "Let's walk this off." We ended up walking about 50 feet, down the street to the Dunkin' Donuts. I'd wanted a donut ever since I saw a commerical for them last night. So this was fortuitous. So I walked with caryn back to her office, and eventually found a bus downtown. I was still carrying the donut. I wanted to enjoy it fully, and figured I'd sit down somewhere with some coffee. After a while, though, i noticed it getting hard and stale. So i just had to eat it while walking. Disappointing. But I'll live.
So more sitting in the coffee shop, reading Vonnegut's Hocus Pocus. Some floppy-haired duded sat next to me, since all the tables were occupied. I didn't like that. He made me uncomfortable. Maybe it was his floppy hair and thick turtleneck sweater and the big metal sun necklance he wore over the sweater. He was actually wearing two long necklaces. Both black string. One with a sun and another just a big-sized marble or something. Anyway, he kind of gave me the creeps. Then I walked over toward Broadway, to visit the footlocker. caryn gave me her 30% off coupon, and I needed new shoes. A pressing need for quite some time now. There was nothing in the store, so I decided to walk up to Union Square. I called Jen K on the way, and it just so happened that she was in the middle of making dinner. She said to stop on by, so I says sure. So she gave me half of the rice and pork dish she made. It was soaked in a tangy sweet and sour sauce that was a little overwhelming. But the pork was good. So we sat around for a while, her and me and her roommate Angela, and shot the shit. The normal topics. The people at the Parks Department, my hair, Denmark, and various weird stories. Then off to the night time job.
The job tonight again consisted of watching primetime UPN programming. Oh, it's just awful. The Hughleys again, as well as One on One. Both shows had their entertaining and genuinely funny moments, but I couldn't believe the whole time I sat there that I was watching these shows for the second week in a row. Good thing i'm getting paid for it.
Anyway, I have an interview tomorrow. It's at the company James works for, where I worked last summer. It's a sucky job, and it pays poorly, but it's a job and it pays. no room for adjectives right now. Plus, working with james was fun. It made the workday a lot more bearable. I'm just worried I won't be able to wake up in the morning. caryn said she'd call me to wake me up. What a gal. It's cold. I hate it. It's cold too soon. And cold equals cold and lonely. I don't know why, but cold just brings lonely with it. And it's getting awfully cold too soon. Oh well. la de da.
