Mail to G-RockI've been very lazy about updating the old journal. I don't seem to be taking joy in the things I used to take joy in. I've also been sleeping a lot lately. Psych 101 anyone?I've posted some pictures from my trip to San Francisco and Las Vegas which you can view here.
So anyway, the trip was really a lot of fun. mostly. On its own merits, it was one of the better weeks I've had in a while. Just fun. But as I experienced it, it was terribly up and down. while the wedding and its surrounding events were a whole lot of fun, at times everything just made me really sad and lonely. The last night there was particularly upsetting, and I think I hit an all-time low. But we're trying to bounce back. Still looking for work. Spent the last few days trying to get into a schedule. An interesting day my first day back. Went with Rodzilla to the hospital, where she had a bit of minor surgery on her hand. I thought I just had to be there since hospitals always say you need someone there to take you home, and I felt sort of silly about going. When they called me back, four hours after we got there, I thought Rodzilla would be standing there, ready to go. I thought the surgery would just be an hour or so in a chair while they operated on her hand. But when I got back to the recovery area, I was shocked to find her laid out in a hospital bed, all covered up, hooked up to the IV and pulse monitor and all that gear. She was all woozy and sort of doped up and when the attendent came over to adjust something, she told the nurse, drowsily, "You have really nice skin." Anyway, she was there to have a cyst removed. A "ganglion" as they call it. She should've had it taken out a long time ago. it's been on her hand since september. So while it was no larger than say a peanut M&M, it had grown in pretty deep and long. that's pretty disgusting. And I guess the hand swelled up like a glove the next day. But at least she got some codeine out of it.
After that,I met up with James and went to about four bars. i didn't really feel anything until I'd been home for a few hours. That's been happening a lot lately, and I don't know why. A good day, though. So yesterday I went over to Rodzilla's and cooked dinner and watched a movie. The dinner was fusilli with stewed tomatoes, onions, and garlic, with a side of broccoli. All from her apartment's plentiful stock. Which was nice. The movie was Chuck and Buck. I'd heard a good deal about it but didn't know what it was really about. It was sort of disturbing, in that way that homo-eroticism normally slightly disturbing for me, but it was an enjoyable film.
So then I came home and went down to Great Lakes with Jed. Sat around for a bit chatting, then decided to sit at the bar and talk to girlies. That didn't really work though, so we sat and talked to each other. Ray, my favorite bartender there, had been there since one in the afternoon, hosting a Kentucky Derby party. He wasn't supposed to work that night, and was just really drunk. He books all the bands that play there, and we were asking him about the possibility of playing a show there. Somewhere in that conversation he said he'd had on crush on me since the moment he first met me. That was a bit surprising. I mean, I knew he was gay, but didn't think he'd thought that. Or that he'd say that. still, it's always flattering and an ego boost when someone has a crush on you. I like to say things like "dude, last night I went out and got all drunk and gay." Um, which I didn't. It just sounds funny, is all. You know... funny.
So anyway, this morning I was all Headache McHurt-hurt. But I dragged my ass into the city to go to a little birthday celebration for Caryn's friend Nate. I spent most of the afternoon on his building's roof, which was gloriously sunny and warm. There was a considerable breeze, but the bricks were really warm, so I spent a good few hours just laying down up there. On the roof of the next building over, there were three young women having a little dance party, bumping and grinding, while this older man just sat there watching. The whole thing was sort of creepy, and for a while they didn't even notice that there were a dozen people watching them. We were trying to figure out what was going on, but didn't come up with anything satisfying. Nate works for the Parks department, and for a few weeks we worked in the same building, back when I worked for Parks. Some of his friends were there, and it was nice to see them even though I never really spoke to them that much while I worked there. They told Caryn later that they thought I was really scrawny when I worked at Parks, and looked better and bigger now. While that should make me feel better, i've been feeling really unhealthy and thick lately, and just spend most of my days sitting around trying not to eat. Feeling fat, basically. And out of shape. And sleeping a lot. Aaaaanyway, it was a nice time out. Bright sunny day. But I seem to be coming down with a slight cold. It got pretty cold last night, after three days of record-setting heat. I should probably go drop a sleep bomb on this cold. Lots to do tomorrow. i hope.
