Mail to G-Rock
So... where to begin. Not the beginning, not the end, and the middle would make no sense.Well, let's pick up where we left off on Friday night.
On second thought, let's not.
So on saturday, my boss from my Parks job, Kate, came with me to Brooklyn to pick up my car. We hopped in, and drove down to Coney Island. We looked around briefly around one of the parks I wrote a sign for, and headed over to the other end of the isthmus to Sheepshead Bay. There we had a lunch of fired seafood, shot the shit, and had some coffee by the water. I'd never been down that way, and I don't think she had either, so it was all an adventure of sorts. After the Bay, we drove over to Manhattan Beach, on the other side of the bay. We sat on the rocks and watched kids play in the surf and the boats go by. So preposterously hairy guy and his girlfriend were doing some impromptu sun-bathing on the rocks about 20 feet from us. I suspect it was impromptu, becuase the girl was wearing her g-string underpants. She was sitting there, stroking her hand through her fat, hairy boyfriend's hairy, hairy chest. That dude had more hair on his chest than I have on my whole body. No joke. The girl kept shooting me and Kate these sultry looks. We thought maybe she was a whore. But we were nonetheless intrigued, as were some gawking 13-year old boys that left after setting something on fire.
Anyway, we sat on the rocks on the beach for a good half an hour. it was very, very peaceful. I coulda sat there all day. twas a nice day. Really, the weather on Saturday was the best it's been in months I think. So it was a great day to be on the coast. There are really a lot of great places to go in New York City. After we left Manhattan Beach, we drove around all over Brooklyn. We kept coming across playground that are run by the Parks Department, so we stopped at a lot of those to take notes. I enjoy mixing business with pleasure. And I could also bill the hour we spent going to the parks. Anyway, it was a fun afternoon doing different things I'd never done before, going places I'd never been, and hanging out with someone I'd never hung out with before. So that was fun. A good day. My dad has a t-shirt from Arby's that says "Different is Good." I suppose it is.
So after I got home, I rested briefly, then went back out. I met Caryn at her friend Nate's apartment on Houston Street. He had some friends over, and we sat around and I helped caryn drink a 40. Not entirely too pleasant. There were some also some sorts of different activities I've never been witness too as well. So all in all, a very different sort of day.Today, i commenced with my plan that I formulated on Saturday after sleeping for 4 hours, and I just crashed. I slept till about 2. But I still wanted to do something with my day, so i went into the city and hung out with caryn. We picked up nate and drove up to Riverside Park. I stopped by Jen's apartment to pick up my book bag that I left there on friday, as I often do, and Jen came home just as I got there. we chatted and walked over to the park. since I started working for the Parks department, I'm much more interested in plants and trees and all manner of foliage. Nate is very knowledgeable in this field, so it was nice to have someone around to consult. I enjoy going around with people who know little facts about what's around them. It was the same driving around with Kate. She's very knowledgeable about New York City. Anyway, another great day today, weather wise. So it was a great day to be in the park. Never been to Riverside Park before. Jen was in a particularly good mood, which is always nice. The four of has had a nice pleasant walk through the park.
I haven't checked, but I think this is the most i've ever used the words "nice," and "pleasant" with such frequency, and it makes it all seem weird some how. Like I'm lying. And it's somehow less interesting too me. But we're starting a new phase. And by "we," I mean "me." But so far, it's had a nice beginning. I seem to have a lot of friends in New York, and I've never needed them more. Many thanks.
Anyway, I've done a terrible job writing about a nice weekend. But I'm too tired to fix it. in sum: different stuff, different fun. tired tired. Dreading class tomorrow. article i need to write.
as for friday night : it was fun, then weird, then fun, then exciting, then weird, then terribly familiar, then exhausting.
