Mail to G-Rock
I did not, in fact, eat some healthy fruit, drink some warm milk, and go to bed as I thought I might. I did however, just get back from Great Lakes. Jed and I went down around 10, and it's now a little after 3. We sat around for bit, shot the shit for a while, and I spilled a full glass of vodka and tonic all over Jed and Myself. Not deliberately. But i was determined to sit there till it dried off. I really like Great Lakes. And the bartender, ray, is a nice dude. He replaced my spilled drink, only saying "don't do that again." And he always buys you a drink after you buy three or so. And the music there is really good. I played a song by Hole tonight for some reason. haven't wanted to hear them/her in years, but for some reason, it was there, and i really wanted to hear the song "miss world." Anyhow, after a while, Jed said he might leave, so I called for reinforcements. Seeing as PFC Kathy lives about 40 feet from Great Lakes, I gave her a call, and though she was in bed, she came down. Her ex boyfriend Fergal is visiting from Ireland, and he came as well. I was kind of curious to meet him. He almost reminds me of Jed in demeanor and physical appearance. I hadn't really talked to kathy since she's been back, and looking at her phone number when I dialed it gave me a content sense of familiarity. I asked her if she'd kept up with my journal over the summer, and she said she tried not to read it, but had read a bit. She also mentioned something about maybe starting her own online journal. I thought that sounded kind of cool, because, as she said, then she could give her side of the events that we both partook in. But then I was suddenly horrified by the idea, because she could give her side of the events we partook. I don't really need to hear what a jackass I am when I'm out at a bar. But whatever.
So I'm listening to The Moon and Antartica, by modest mouse. I like it. A lot. I didn't at first. The first time I heard it, it was very late one night, and Rodzilla was trying to go to sleep and Jed and my brother geoff were hanging out in my room, and I could tell she was a bit perturbed. Hell, I woulda been. And the weirdness of the album kind of turned me off at the time. But upon further listening, the first three songs are actually really beautiful songs. After that though, it gets a little dodgy. It's weird. But good. I'm going to see them at Irving Plaza later in the month. I'll be going with PFCs Caryn and Kathy, and a few other people. Rodzilla I think took quite a liking to some of Modest Mouse's tunes, although she couldn't remember the name of the band. I found it quite humorous, as did she, when she was trying to feel out the name she couldn't quite remember. She knew it was somehow alliterative, and said something like "Herman's Hermits," then my personal favorite, "Melvin's Misery." She fucking cracks me up. That aspect of her really reminds me of matt, in that they seldomly care about how the sound, but just say whatever's on their mind with reckless abandon, no matter how stupid they think they might sound. I myself find it quite endearing.
Anyhow, it's late. And I need to get into the city tomorrow. I need to buy some clothes to wear to my new jobs that start this week. I gotta look spiffy, dontcha know. I just wish I had someone to go with. I'm particularly horrible at picking out clothes. Nice looking clothes anyway. Which is a shame, since I think I clean up pretty good. But I don't have good (fashion) sense.Maybe more later.
