Most of the news of the day is of a geeky sort. In order:
I discovered today that I could find out where somone was located based solely on their IP address. This was very exciting, as I am obsessive about things like web stats. It actully took some doing, and had I had a Unix interface I might have taken a long time figuring it out using that method. But it alluded me. So I simply went to ask.com and punched in the question, and after about half an hour, i found the page at
http://cities.lk.net/inserturl.htm. They do good work.I decided to finally, for real, start learning HTML. I've been doing webpages for a year and half now, and I've been picking up little bits of HTML here and there, but I should really just take a few days and really learn it cold. How hard can it really be? I mean, I see 14 year old girls with webpages done with html beyond anything I could ever do with Dreamweaver. So I think it's time to start catching up. The first page I ever did was with HTML, and I have to say it wasn't half bad at the time. It was for James's old band, Jactaid, in 1996 I think. Anyway, I haven't done an HTML page since.
Lastly, i rushed home today to put a new desk in my room. The desk barely fit down my long, narrow hallway, but it made it the 20 feet without any problem. But once I got to my doorway, I had the horrible discovery that it was about 1 inch too wide to fit. I couldn't figure out how to get the legs of this old yard-sale desk, so I tried to take the door off. Fortunately, the landlord here likes to paint over every possible surface of the apartment, so there were thick layers and layers of paint over the hinges. I eventually managed to get the hinges out, surprisingly without injuring myself. So that was a little treat.
Anyhow, I need the new desk because I wanted to set up two monitors for my G4. And I ordered a new video card yesterday which arrived today. Actually, i had to go get it from the airborne express center, way down on 1st ave and 51st st. Don't be there after dark. It's the same place I had to pick up this computer. I hate Airborne Express and UPS and the like. I'm never here to get any of the packages. However, the trip did end in the discovery of a place on 41st street called "Sweet Cherry's topless bar" and "Sweet Cherry's Gentleman's Club." Sweet. Next time we have out of town guests, we'll be all like "Yo, let's go to Sweet Cherry's!" or not.
Anyhow, the installation of said video card went smoothly, except for little things that I keep noticing. First of all, the cool amber-glowing effect that the computer used to do when in Sleep mode no longer happens. And the computer is also unusually noisy right now. I'm hoping at least the noisiness will pass. But I'm thoroughly enjoying my two-monitor setup. It's so luxurious. One giant, cluttered desktop. Just like I like it. Plus, the new card has an s-video out, so the DVD player can now be routed to my TV. How very exciting. I guess I'll try that tomorrow. don't wanna blow all the excitement in one day, you know.So Rodzilla, during her first day in Manhattan after moving into her place, was robbed yesterday. She was pretty broken up about it for a bit. I was pretty surprised myself. Some sneaky fellow just snatched her wallet right from under her nose. It's very odd. Her bag was siting on her feet at a restaurant, and when she looked down, it was gone, along with the hundred bucks fresh from the ATM. That sucks. after the initial shock, now I'm just wondering what happened. I can't believe anyone more than three apples high could sneak into her bag and take her wallet without noticing. It was probably the C.H.U.D.S.
