2000. Sunday
So far, the extended weekend has been rather uneventful. But sort of in a good way. Just relaxing and taking care of stuff that needed doing. Is this what normal working peopel usually do over their holidays? So far, I've concentrated mostly on the bathroom. On friday, I jumped in the shower and discovered that the shower head had almost no water coming out of it. It had about the water pressure you might see in the penis of a urinating 84-year old man. So that sucked. So after work I stopped by the hardware store, and picked a new showerhead, a bucket, and a new toilet seat. You see, my old roommate bought a toilet seat last fall, and much to my horror it was one of thus cushy seats made of plastic. It served its purpose for a while, I mean, it's better than no seat at all. But lately, it had been showing some...wear. And toilet seats generally aren't supposed to do that. But the once white seat was beginning to, in some areas, change colors. You know, brown, yellow, and such and such. Really fucking gross. Plus, now that it's so hot outside, occassionally you might sit down on the toilet to discover a nice warm seat, still moist from the previous user's sweaty thighs. Truly, no man in the modern era should have to endure conditions such as these.
So yeah, i'm super fucking excited about my new toilet seat. I love it. Cool, clean, and firm. Just the way I like it. But man, was it gross changing it. That's why I let Jed do it. Hey, I spent 40 bucks on a new, cleaner bathroom. So if I finance it, he should put in the work. I hate doing that stuff. I just keep washing my hands, and washing and washing, but they never get clean.
Anyway, I was hoping to clean up the whole apartment, but that didn't happen. Instead, I got up around 2 this afternoon, just in time to get out and see the afternoon showing of The Patriot. It wasn't bad. I actually really enjoyed. I like big historical epic movies. And I especially like movies where everyone wears knee-britches and tri-cornered hats. It's really funny to see these guys looking all tough in these getups. The fight scenes reminded me a lot of the scenes from Last of the Mohicans. Speaking of that movie, there's a line in that movie, where Chingachgook says to Hawkeye about white people, "Do not try to understand them. Do not try to make them understand you, for they are a breed apart and make no sense." Freshman year in college or so, I told Jed that my dad made that up and told me to beware whitey. And he believed it for a very long time. Anyhow, if you've got three hours or so, it was a pretty good movie. There were a few cheesy moments, but not as many as you might expect. It's tough to have any scene involving a non-ironic use of the American flag seem not cheesy. The only bad thing was that I noticed that Mel Gibson is starting to believe he's a better actor than he is. It's what happens to a decent actor from popular movies that gets a bunch of critical acclaim. It happened to Tom Hanks and others; the best, and worst, example being Nicolas Cage. I can't stand that guy. And Angelina Jolie, as yummy as she is, really gets on my nerves. They get too serious. That's why I was sort of glad to see Mel do that last Lethal Weapon movie. It was completely uncessary, and not very good, but it was good to see him make a crappy movie to show he's not taking it all too seriously.
Other than that, not much going on. For the last few days, I've had this over-romanticized notion of living in Europe. I'd just like to get up and go and find a job. I don't know why. I just have this desire to live on the Continent for some reason. I'm sure i'm idealizing any notion of life there, but I'd like to find out on my own, I guess. I really want to get out of the city for a while. I'll be going to Lexington in about two weeks, which I'm excited about. Rodzilla and I are going down for a visit. I think we'll stop in either DC or Charlottesville on the way back. I'm not sure which one yet. There are attractions to see in both that I'd like to see.
By the way, can you believe it's fucking July already? Summer really takes on a whole new feeling when you're working. This is a first for me. Hopefully, it isn't the start of a trend.
I hate my sense of ironic foreshadowing, by the way.
