Daily Aggravations and Regrets
and various random thoughts

Just back from a show at the Bowery Ballroom. Juliana Hatfield.  I used to really like her.  But I haven't bought any of her cds since 1996 probably.  But I've always thought she was a real cutie.  I was there partly because of that sort of suggestive dream I had about her about a month ago.  Anyhow, the show was really good.  It was the first show that I've been to that I didn't know the majority of the songs, but still really enjoyed.  Probably cause I was staring at Juliana like a little school boy.  But that's besides the point. The music, man, the music.  She only played one old song, "My Sister."  But she just really, well, rocked.  They played a few seconds of a Doors song as well.  It was just a cool show.  they were having fun, and they played for what seemed like a short hour and half.  Anyway, gotta love those waif-ish rock chicks.  mmmmm... waif....

Anyhow, outside of my fantasies, I had my first day of work today at James's company.  Gald he never listened to me about not taking the job and quitting his low paying job and such and such.  Anyway, it was pretty tedious, as you might expect a day of work would be at a company that publishes tax codes.  There were three other people starting, all summer interns, and they were all at least4 years younger than me. I felt like I was sitting at a little first grade desk with a bunch of 6 year olds.  I'm feeling old.  Anyhow, the first two hours of "training" consisted of an extensive tutorial on the finer points of the tricky program, Microsoft Outlook.   I thought maybe we'd use some of the little functions of Outlook that people normall don't use, like the calendar or something.  But all we did was "learn" how to send email.  We practiced replying to mail, replying to all recipients, and even how to write our very own messages.  then we had a snack of animal crackers followed by a nap.

Anyhow, we'll eventually be putting SGML tags around text to format it for the web.  James tells me I'll probably be working for the guy who did the layout for his album.  Say, if you've got a spare ten bucks and are looking for some new hit records, why don't you check ou James' site, www.durdybirdie.com.  Anyhow, I won't be doing the same tedious tagging that James is doing. I'll be doing other sorts of tedious formatting of tables and the like.  But I've kind of wanted to learn that kind of stuff.  And it beats telemarketing.  I still haven't decided on 4 or 5 days of work.  If I work 4 days, I can still go in on Fridays if i really want to to get stuff done. So basically, I could make Fridays optional.  Sounds like a plan to me.
Well, I got work in the morning. That feels wrong.
