Daily Aggravations and Regrets
and various random thoughts

May 23, 2000.  Tuesday

Well, I'm back here in New York.  The weekend was somewhat relaxing, sort of.  It's been cold and rainy and cloudy for the last 6 days.   Amherst, MA was also cold and cloudy.  Geoff's graduation was brief, but still not short enough.  it was raining almost the whole time, and it was so goddam cold.  But it was nice to have the whole family there.  It only took 3 college graduations to get everyone to go to one.  So anyway, when not doing grauation things, I spent a lot of time playing video games on Garrick's computer, mainly Q*bert.  I also spent a lot of time deflecting various "You need to get a job," comments/commands.   I also went bowling, which I often do.  I beat Geoff two out of three, if you're curious. He was quite boastful beforehand.  But not after.  I went bowling again yesterday with jason, and he bested me.  I did better than I did against Geoff, but I found this extremely light ball for Jason, and he destroyed the pins.  It was sick.  Anway, enough about bowling.

One of the speaker's at the graduation was Bill Amend, creator of my favorite comic strip Foxtrot.  He graduated Amherst in 1984.  He was pretty funny.  He talked a lot about his being a physics amjor in college, and how that's helped him in cartooning.  he said something like, how some cartoonists have a tough time with deadlines and whatnot, and he said that, being a physics major, "I know what real pressure is....   it's force divided by area!"  Hee hee.  how droll.  Cracked me up.

I found out over the weekend that Rodzilla got the teaching job in New York that she applied for.  But she says she's not sure she's going to take the job.  She doens't want to be a teaching assitant again, after doing that all this year.  But I think she'll be in New York regardless.
Speaking of Rodzilla, she gets here on thursday.  Very exciting.  She'll only be here for a few days, but at least she'll be back in the country.  I also start my summer class on the day she gets back, so that kind of sucks.  Anyway, I'm really looking forward to a normalization of relations.

I made a few purchases over the weekend and into today.  i bought Belle and Sebastian's If You're Feeling Sinister today.  I'd kind of wanted it for a little while, but I didn't want to give in to Belle and Sebastian.  But I finally did.  I like it.  It was worth ten bucks.   I also borrowed the Built to Spill Live cd from Geoff, as well as a Stereolab cd and a Modest Mouse CD, all of which are pretty good.  And this morning before I left PA, I  bought Perfect Dark, the N64 game I'd been waiting on.  It's the same people who made Goldeneye, the James Bond shooting game we spent so many hours playing at the SHOE.  It kind of sucks that I've had nothing to do for the last few weeks, and now I have this cool game to play, Rodzilla's coming, Matt's here for a few days, and I have to edit a paper to try and get it published.  So i have a busy day tomorrow.  PFC Kathy got back today too. She brought me a giant leprechaun hat.  Maybe I'll get a picture of it. I think I will.  Here's me in my new hat:

Top o' the moornin' to ya lassie! Might a trooble ya fer a bowla Looky Charms?

Anyway, so I have a lot to do in the next few days, and then boredom again.  Really, in 5 or 6 days, it'll be the same old drudgery again.
Speaking od drudgery, I really had a lot to write about this weekend as it was happening, but now that i'm writing about it, I don't really feel like it.
