Daily Aggravations and Regrets
and various random thoughts

May 14, 2000.  Sunday

I didn't do much of anything yesterday.  I just sat at home, watching TV, reading, playing guitar, and various dorky shit.  It was very stormy outside, which is often my favorite kind of weather in spring and summer.  A startling realization I had while sitting home alone:  Having nothing you need to do is only really good when there's something else you'd rather be doing.  But after two weeks of no class and no work, in little baby steps, I'm getting some stuff done.  I'm trudging my way through this web design manual, and it's very slow going.  I'm just about done with another Vonnegut book, Galapagos. It's OK, but not great.  I thought I'd like it more, but it's done in more of a style where he tells about the story rather than telling the story.  i think his later books are like that. I think I'll read one more, than give it Vonnegut a rest for a while.  It's a tossup between The Sirens of Titan, Bluebeard, and God Bless You, Mr Rosewater. I've hear good things about all three, but I think I like his earlier books better.  Anyway, there's also a number of books that I had to read this semester that I never finished, some of which I kind of wanted to. Bonfire of theVanities seemed fairly interesting, but I didn't get far enough into it to really want to read it.  Into Thin Air, by Jon Krakauer, was actually really great.  It's about an ill-fated expedition up Mt. Everest.  I really tried to finish that one, but there was no way I could do it in 2 days.  Anyway, it's sitting on my floor now, gathering dust.  I really want to finish the last hundred pages, just to see who lives and who dies.  I can't believe I actually like the books I have to read for school.  That's never happened before.  Then again, I never really read books before either.

So Rodzilla called today. We spoke for about 23 seconds before the line was cut off.  She's still in Florence. Took a bike ride down to Tuscany with her friend Jason, and took shelter in some nice Italians' home when it started to rain.  Wish i were there.  Wish we could speak for more than 20 seconds too.  But New York is nice this time of year.  The weather was dandy today.  By the way, I can't remember the last time I used the word "dandy."  Anyhow, Rodzilla comes back in 12 days or so, so we're not unhappy about that.  And I've got a pretty full calendar till she gets here.  I have to go up to Amherst, Massachussets for my brother Geoff's graduation next week, and hopefully by the time I get back to New York, i'll have my car.

I still need to start looking for a job. I'm considering waiting tables.  I really suck at it though, and I hate being on my feet all that time, and I hate having a job where I actually have to work for the majority of the time I'm there.  No thanks.  I got my tax return this weekend.  A significant hunk of change, actually.  Two month's rent  think.  Anyway, I'm trying to reinitiate the 6am jogging thing too.  I've gone in the afternoon the last few days, well, except for the last couple of days. But it's the weekend.  Anyway, it's rather late.
