Daily Aggravations and Regrets

April 1, 2000.  Saturday.

Thoughts of school are constantly overwhelming me. I'm wondering if The feeling will go away before the end of the month.

Anyhow, PFC Caryn came over this afternoon, which prevented me from getting anything done. We played a little N64, then Jed, Caryn, and I went over to Prospect Park to toss the frisbee around.  I have to say, I'm pretty ninja.

School thoughts again. I didn't get anything done last night. i called PFC Kathy to say hello, then I got corraled into going down to this bar on 5th Ave with her to see her roommate.  We said hello, and that was about all we saw of that crowd. We just sat at the bar yapping away.  She's a nice girl.  I enjoy talking to her.  Anyhow, I had a hankerin' for some flapjacks, so we headed over to the Grecian Corner diner, which was the original plan before I got railroaded into going to the bar.  I didn't get the pancakes, opting instead for a less-than-satisfying meatball sandwhich.  Kathy got some disgusting, rancid meatloaf.  While meatloaf is my most beloved of all loaves,  this was really gross. It kind of reminded me of Playdough.

So we left there, and came back to my apartment.  There we found Jed, and we played some guitar for a while.  Jed's written two songs that I really like, the first being the theme song to a TV show he'd like to make someday, called "Uncle Tito's Penitentiary."  It stars, or will star, Edward James Olmos, as Uncle Tito, who strikes a deal with the Mexican Government to run a private prison on some island off the Gulf Coast.  Anyway, the song kills me.  The other song is also a theme song, for the fictional band "Comrade Jimmy and NATO's Nightmare."  It basically runs down a list of prominent communists through history.  My favorite line: "Workers of the world unite... as we rock for you!"  Oh, that jed...

So I go the new Yo La Tengo album yesterday, "And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out."  I've been kind of turned off by YLT, particularly because of the last time I saw them in the fall.  But I'd read so many good reviews of the album, mostly about its sincerity, that I had to try it out.  And I like it a lot. It is indeed very sincere.  I hate them live, and I doubt I'll ever see them again, because the whole show is just full of irony.  They play these sweet little tunes, and Ira Kaplan has to go and ruin them with the dissonent loud guitar work.  It's much better on cd.  On cd, it's so sincere, while live, it's just ironic. Which i suppose is ironic itself.  Anyway, i read a good review of it the other day in Shift magazine, which contrasted it with Beck's new album, which i really, really hate.  I got into an argument with Jed's friend Holly the other night over Beck, and how the whole new album is basically all about how cool Beck knows he is.  I think he thinks he's Prince.  If he did that for one or two songs, it'd be funny.  But a whole album's worth is a little much.  So no, we don't like that.  Anyhow, I like the new Yo La Tengo, much to my surprise. I'm particularly fond of the songs "Tears Are In Your Eyes," and "Our way to Fall."  So I recommend it.

So, yeah, i got lots to do.  It's unfortunate that I choose my webpage over my more "important" "work."  I can't believe it's April already. I turn 24 in 9 days. Can ya believe that shit?  Fucking 24.  Old old old.  I forgot it was April Fool's day.  Not that I had anything particularly wacky planned anyhow.  Maybe I'll just fool myself.
